Jessie WorobeyCanadore Journalism Print-Broadcast student 2008-2011j.worobey@mycanadore.ca Living near the lake her entire life, surrounded by woods and outdoor adventures, one could assume Jessie Worobey would choose to spend her life battling the tests of nature. Instead, she could be classified as a homebody preferring to test her mental abilities to her physical ones. During high school, Jessie never knew exactly what she was going to do when she graduated but one thing she was certain of was her dislike for gym class. While all her friends at Sutton District HS were getting sweaty in gym and burning stuff in cooking, the only classes left for Jessie were creative writing and myths and archetypes. It was there that she met her favourite teacher who taught her not only to love writing but the basics of writing correctly. As a result, Jessie decided to test her abilities, have some adventures, and share her love for the written word with the world as a Journalist. The inspiration to become a journalist came through a combination of watching and reading news and watching his grandparents and other elders in his community tell stories. Jon witnessed his elders tell stories in ways that make people not only more interested in the story being told, but also remembering them and coming away with a new sense of knowledge. Jon hopes he can eventually develop his techniques to reach that level of interest in his craft. Looking to the future, Jon's goal is to graduate from Canadore's journalism program and pursue a career in television in a sports related news environment. ![]() Laura CooperCanadore Journalism Print-Broadcast student 2007-2010l.cooper@mycanadore.ca photo album Laura Cooper was born and raised in Weston, Ontario-which is now known as the Greater Toronto Area. Go Habs Go! ![]() Tom LoweryCanadore Journalism Print-Broadcast student 2007-2010j.lowery@mycanadore.ca photo album Super-massive photography interest. Takes shelter in record stores. Vintage is a must, old stuff or bust. Wooed by everything/anything creative and artistic. Tom Lowery calls the second moon of Mars home, but he actually resides from the small Northern Ontario town of Temagami. Tom grew up on an island deep in the Canadian wilderness far from cable television and awareness of current events. Fortunately for his sake he did have a shelf of his parents’ weathered LPs to explore, as well as a cardboard populace of boxes containing VHS cassette tapes in which each was soiled with a preposterous amount of dated Saturday morning programming. Fast-forward Tom’s 8-tracked life and drop the needle in the grooves of his post high school years, and we find him with a diploma in hand, a head full of nonsense, and the drive to apportion it all out to the world. Choose your own adventure literature has always been a favorite past-time of Tom’s, so he simply applied this aesthetic to his own life and chose to pursue a career in journalism. Paul SoucyCanadore Journalism Print-Broadcast student 2007-2010p.soucy@mycanadore.ca photo album Paul was born in Elliot Lake, ON where he attended École Georges Vanier from pre-kindergarten through grade 8 and then École Secondaire Villa Française des Jeunes for all four years of high school. Growing up, Paul enjoyed playing a variety of sports, including hockey, soccer and later, basketball. Paul played for the VFJ Elite basketball squad throughout his four years there. Primarily a bench-warmer, he realized early on that he'd never make it pro and figured the best job next to being a pro athlete was getting paid to talk about it every day. Paul always had a natural interest in current events, mainly politics and sports. During his first year at Canadore College, his classmates nicknamed him the "stats guy" because of his unique ability to rhyme off obscure sports statistics. Paul is a second year student in the Journalism – Print and Broadcast program at Canadore College. When he isn't doing homework or out covering the latest breaking news, he enjoys playing his XBOX 360, watching re-runs of his favorite show "Arrested Development" and listening to the greatest Canadian rockers of all time: The Tragically Hip. Chris ThibeaultCanadore Journalism Print-Broadcast student 2007-2010c.thibeault@mycanadore.ca photo album Chris Thibeault is from the small town of Foleyet, Ontario, an hour south of Timmins. In high school, Chris was a member of his grade eleven yearbook class. He had a flair for layout and design and spent much of his time after hours working on his pages. This sparked an interest in journalism. Now at Canadore in his second year of the Journalism Print Broadcast program, Chris enjoys the subtle art of the interview. Human endeavour is something that has always fascinated him. Chris likes finding out what makes people tick, having misconceptions blown away, writing and working to deadline. He also enjoys good company, videogames, being with family, Foleyet and satisfaction of a job well done. ![]() Morgan WillamsCanadore Journalism Print-Broadcast student 2007-2009 m.williams@mycanadore.ca photo album Morgan was born and raised in Cobalt, Ontario where she attended St. Patrick’s elementary school, and then later graduated high school from Temiskaming District Secondary school in New Liskeard, Ontario.
